Your knife is definitely dull if…
…it squashes the tomato
You press down, the skin gives all at once, and the slice is a mess.
…it slides off the onion
A sharp knife bites where you put it. A dull one skates across the skin.
…you saw at the meat
Three passes where one should do it.
…you force it through
You lean on the knife to get through produce. One slip is a trip to the medical center.
A dull knife robs you of time and safety
The edge you grind away is gone
A one-angle sharpener puts a coarse edge on a fine knife. Do that enough times and the knife is finished.
The new set you didn't need
Most knives get replaced long before they are worn out. A dull knife and a dead knife feel the same in your hand.
A dull knife slips
It needs more force to cut. More force is how your hand ends up in front of the blade.
“I was close to buying a new knife set. No need now. Works like a dream.” — Francis J., verified purchase on Amazon
Tungsten clears the burr. Ceramic polishes the edge.
A dull edge carries a burr. That is a thin curl of rolled metal along the cutting edge, and it is what stops the knife biting.
- TUNGSTEN
- Takes the burr off a dull edge. It follows the bevel your knife already has.
- CERAMIC
- Polishes what is underneath, so the edge comes up clean and holds longer.
- YOUR ANGLE
- You set it before the knife goes in. Both stages follow that setting on every pull.

A cheap pull-through cannot do this. It has one slot, fixed at one angle. If your knife was ground at 15° and the slot sits at 20°, the only way it can reach the edge is to grind the shoulder off the blade. That is why a good knife never quite comes back after a few passes through one.
Set the angle. Pull it through. Done.
- 1COARSERepairs a chipped or rolled edge. Skip it if the knife is only a little dull.
- 2MEDIUMSharpens. A few light pulls at the angle you set.
- 3FINEPolishes the edge smooth and takes the burr off.
Pull only. Draw the knife toward you from heel to tip. Never push it back through.
Five angles. Every knife.
Turn the knob until the arrow lines up. The angle holds for every pull.

Not sure? Set it to 18°. That suits most kitchen knives. Go down a step if the blade is thin. Straight edges only — serrated knives won't work in it.

This is probably the easiest and fastest I've ever made my knives razor sharp. I have used other manual knife sharpeners and this is by far absolutely the best I have ever used. I even tried the scissor sharpener and OMG my cheap kitchen scissors became razor blades.

I always sharpened my own knives on a steel rod. I thought it was good enough until I tried the Orange Ninja. Tomatoes slice like butter. It is sturdy, it does not slip, and you do not need to put pressure on it.

Straight answers.
Which angle do I use?
Set it to 18° for most kitchen knives. Use 12° for fillet and sushi knives, 15° for Asian knives, 21° for outdoor knives and 24° for hunting and pocket knives. The chart above has the lot.
Will it grind my knife away?
No. The tungsten clears the burr off the edge. It does not take the knife with it. If the blade is only a little dull, start in the fine slot and skip the coarse one.
Does it work on serrated knives?
No. Straight edges only. Bread knives and steak knives with teeth will not sharpen in it.
How long does one knife take?
About two minutes. A few light pulls through each slot you need.
Does it sharpen scissors?
Not this one. The 4-in-1 scissor sharpener does, and it comes in the bundle above. It has four angles for kitchen, fabric, hair and craft scissors.
